Art Themen is a highly original jazz musician, well known to Castle audiences. His career involved playing with innumerable British greats from Tubby Hayes to Stan Tracey. Originally influenced by Dexter Gordon and Sonny Rollins, Art has also played with US stars, including Al Haig. Simon Spillet calls Art “Doctor Jazz”, in a recent Jazz Journal. Now retired from his other career, as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon, he can please jazz audiences even more with consummate playing of tenor and soprano sax, flute and clarinet.With Art Themen tonight are John Crichinson piano, Andy Cleyndert, bass and Spike Wells on drums.
